WHO WE ARE

We believe in extravagantly loving Jesus and selflessly loving people. We are here to help you grow in faith no matter where you are in your life. We love people of all ages and backgrounds. We love families and children. We love helping people within our community and throught the world. We believe in having audacious faith and believing in God's greatness. Our church is established to show people the love of our Heavenly Father and the love, grace, and power of Jesus Christ.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns we would love to help.

Our Mission, Vision, & Strategy

Mission: "TOGETHER, extravagantly love Jesus and selflessly love people."

Vision: "See people SAVED, HEALED, EMPOWERED, and LAUNCHED into their calling.”

Strategy: "Create environments where people are encouraged and equipped to carry the cross of Christ to their FAMILY, CHURCH, COMMUNITY, and the WORLD.”

We are passionate about the love of Jesus. Our focus is to reach the lost, rebuild relationships, encourage the community and grow families through relevant Bible teachings, exciting worship and family-based programs. Jesus died for our sins so we don't have to live with who we are and what we have done. Through the life of Jesus Christ and the love of our heavenly Father, we strive to create a safe place to come and worship Him.

We love our church. We love the people that fill our church. We want to help and grow the wonderful people in our community. We are not here to judge people, but to love them through the different seasons of their life. We believe God has a plan and a purpose for everyone’s life and we believe in caring, loving and nurturing people through their journey. God is extravagantly for you and so are we.

Meet the Pastor

In June of 2016, Pastor Ottis accepted the full-time senior pastor position at Calvary Church. He is an anointed leader who is gifted to lead worship, preach and teach prophetically.  His passion is to see people be awakened to who God is, and to see them burn in passion for Him. In addition to spending time with his family, Ottis also enjoys hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.

Meet the Staff

Our staff is here for you. Meet the people that have devoted their lives to loving Christ, and loving you.

Luke Thomas — Worship & Admin. Pastor

Luke grew up in Deland, FL and is the middle of three children. He moved to Orlando to attend the University of Central Florida where he majored in Business Administration/Marketing. During this time he also served as a worship leader with Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. While at UCF, he met his amazing wife, Cheri. They were married in 2002 and now have three children: Nathan, Bayli, and Landon. They have been members at Calvary since 2005 and Luke has been on staff at the church, full-time since May of 2012. Luke has a deep passion for worship music as well as small groups and hopes to see people's lives radically changed by God, through these ministries. His favorite scripture is Romans 12:2 (NIV), "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Carl Vonderhaar — Children’s Pastor

As a 23 year resident of Citrus County, Carl has learned to love life in a small town. He and his wife Megan, have been ministering to youth and families, for the past 14 years.  Making an eternal impact has been their driving passion. That passion led them to Lakeland, FL where Carl obtained a Bachelor Degree in Business, from Southeastern University. After graduating, Carl, and his family spent three years on the mission field serving the needs of vulnerable and orphaned children on the continent of Africa. His time, both on the mission field and here at home, Carl has learned that life should not be lived alone. There is joy and power in community. As the Children's Pastor Carl's greatest joy is to see families grow closer to God and to each other.

Dylan Jewell — Youth Pastor

Dylan moved to Citrus County in 2008 from West Virginia. He started attending Youth Group at Calvary as a result of an invite from a friend and had a radical encounter with God that changed his life forever. He graduated from Lecanto High School in 2011, and has since then has pursued ministerial credentials through Global University. He and his wife Stephanie have been married since 2014 and have one beautiful daughter, Aria. He has a heart to see young people transformed and living holy, set apart lives before God.

Alex Parker — Technical and Worship Arts Director

Stephanie Jewell — Office Administrator

Stephanie was born and raised in Citrus County. She and her husband, Dylan, have attended Calvary Church since 2014. She is currently serving as a youth leader at The Well. What We Believe

These are nonnegotiable tenets of faith that all Assemblies of God churches adhere to. This list is derived from the official Statement of Fundamental Truths. Click links below to see the complete original statement with scriptures.

  1. WE BELIEVE ... The Scriptures are Inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind.
  2. WE BELIEVE ... There is only One True God — revealed in three persons ... Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity).
  3. WE BELIEVE ... In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. As God's son Jesus was both human and divine.
  4. WE BELIEVE ... though originally good, Man Willingly Fell to Sin — ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world.
  5. WE BELIEVE ... Every Person Can Have Restored Fellowship with God Through 'Salvation' (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior). [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]
  6. WE BELIEVE ... and practice two ordinances — (1) Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one's sins and receiving Christ's gift of salvation, and (2) Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ's suffering and death for our salvation.
  7. WE BELIEVE ... The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a Special Experience Following Salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times. [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]
  8. WE BELIEVE ... The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is 'Speaking in Tongues,' as experienced on the Day of Pentecost and referenced throughout Acts and the Epistles.
  9. WE BELIEVE ... Sanctification Initially Occurs at Salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more Christlike.
  10. WE BELIEVE ... The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. We believe 'the Church' is the Body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God's offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son Jesus Christ.
  11. WE BELIEVE ... A Divinely Called and Scripturally Ordained Leadership Ministry Serves the Church. The Bible teaches that each of us under leadership must commit ourselves to reach others for Christ, to worship Him with other believers, to build up or edify the body of believers — the Church and to Meet human need with ministries of love and compassion.
  12. WE BELIEVE ... Divine Healing of the Sick is a Privilege for Christians Today and is provided for in Christ's atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins). [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]
  13. WE BELIEVE ... in The Blessed Hope — When Jesus Raptures His Church Prior to His Return to Earth (the second coming). At this future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever. [1 of 4 cardinal doctrines of the AG]
  14. WE BELIEVE ... in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints at His second coming and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years. This millennial reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and the establishment of universal peace.
  15. WE BELIEVE ... A Final Judgment Will Take Place for those who have rejected Christ. They will be judged for their sin and consigned to eternal punishment in a punishing lake of fire.
  16. WE BELIEVE ... and look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him. We will live and dwell with Him there forever following His millennial reign on Earth. 'And so shall we forever be with the Lord!'
